Baby Abandoned in Strom Drain

A newborn baby boy abandoned in a storm drain has died, according to DeKalb County authorities. DeKalb County police said they found the baby abandoned in a storm drain at about 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

The discovery followed a tip from 18-year-old Sinead Harrison. Harrison told police she gave birth to the baby in a gas station restroom and then she put the baby in a dumpster near Wesley Chapel Road. Police searched the dumpster but did not find the baby.

Harrison also gave police her boyfriend's address. Police questioned the 19-year-old man, identified as Landis Moore, and he allegedly confessed that his girlfriend had given birth to their son in the house and then he had put the baby in the storm drain. Officials found the baby a short time later in a storm drain and took it to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. Officials said the baby boy had been in the drain for "several hours" but he was initially expected to survive.

He died Thursday evening."They located the baby inside that storm drain … I don't know how the condition was but I know that she did give birth early Thursday morning and it was placed in that storm drain and had been there for a few hours. But it was alive and it was transported," said Officer Jason Gagnon with the DeKalb County Police Department.

Moore claims the baby was stillborn.

The FBI is investigating as a possible hate crime an incident in which a woman was beaten to the ground in front of her child at the entrance to a Cracker Barrel restaurant in Morrow, Georgia, south of Atlanta.

Troy Dale West Jr., of Poulan, Georgia, is facing charges including misdemeanor battery and disorderly conduct after allegedly beating Army reservist Tashawnea Hill, 35, after the two had words at the entrance of the Morrow, Georgia, restaurant the evening of September 9.

Hill, an African-American, told police that West, 47, yelled racial epithets at her as the attack took place.

"He did punch me with a closed fist repeated times. My head is still hurting today. I have knots on my head," Hill told CNN Wednesday night, adding she also was kicked.

Hill told police the incident started when she and her daughter were entering the restaurant at the same time West and his wife were exiting.

"The man slung open the door pretty hard and fast and I had to push my daughter out of the way," Hill told CNN affiliate WSB-TV. "I turned to the man and I just said, 'Excuse me sir, you need to watch yourself; you almost hit my daughter in the face.' And from there it just went downhill."

Sunday School Teacher Faces Death Penalty

Prosecutors will seek the death penalty against a former California Sunday school teacher accused of killing an 8-year-old girl earlier this year. Melissa Huckaby, 28, was indicted last month in the death of Sandra Cantu, a playmate of Huckaby's daughter. Huckaby lived in the same mobile home park as Cantu and her family in Tracy, California.

Sandra's body was found April 6, stuffed into a suitcase and submerged in a pond at a dairy farm. She was last seen alive March 27 in the mobile home park. Huckaby is charged with kidnapping and murdering Sandra, according to the indictment, along with lewd and lascivious acts on a child under 14 and rape by instrument. She pleaded not guilty in June, but entered another not guilty plea on Thursday at a hearing.

Prosecutors said at the hearing Thursday they plan to seek the death penalty.

A baby just 1 month old or younger was found dead near the Sacramento River on Wednesday, Sutter County sheriff's detectives said. Authorities were called shortly before 6:30 p.m. to the 6900 block of Garden Highway after someone walking in the area discovered the body. The gender of the baby was not released. The discovery was made in a rural area. There are no homes nearby.

This is very cruel. If someone does not want there baby or can not take care of there baby, give it to someone who can. There are plenty of people in the world, who would love to take care of that baby.

Man in Wal-Mart slaps crying child

Roger Stephens, 61, of Stone Mountain,Ga, became so angry about a crying child that he allegedly slapped the girl in the face is due in court Wednesday.

A police report said the man had warned the child’s mother, Sonya Mathews, that if she didn’t quiet down the child, he would do it for her. According to the report, after the mother failed to quiet the girl, Stephens came up to them and slapped the child several times in the face. The report then quotes Stephens as saying, “See, I told you I would shut her up.”

Woman killed church where she is pastor

Earlier this week a pastor was murdered in the church where she was preached. She drove over an hour each way just to preach the gospel. I don't understand how someone can be this cruel. All this lady wanted to do was share the word of God and someone viciously murdered her because of it. Other preachers have been warned, because it has been reported that the killer was not an acquaintance of hers.

Back In School

As most of you realize school has started back again. I am really enjoying all of my classes at this point, but things could change in the future. As for the weather I have a different feeling about it. I know we needed the rain, but I wish it would not rain for just a day. So overall things in my life are really good.

Mother denies son medical attention

A Las Vegas woman is accused of killing her son by denying him medical treatment for a chronic kidney disease. Metro police told FOX5 Lena Marie Anderson was charged with murder and child abuse and neglect following the death of 15-year-old Patrick Atkins, who died Feb. 6 after being brought to University Medical Center with a bloody nose.

Police said Anderson told them her son had been sick for three weeks and, despite being treated with antibiotics, Atkins was not fully recovering. The antibiotics were prescribed by a doctor at Southwest Medical Center, but police said Anderson never told them about her son’s condition. Atkins underwent Urethal Valve surgery when he was a boy, and his mother had been treating him with medication and catheterization several times a day. Police said when the boy was 12, Anderson refused to take him back to the doctor, thinking the condition would change on its own. She also told police she discontinued Atkins' medication because he didn't like it and she was tired of “fighting her son.”

Detectives interviewed doctors and a nurse who had treated Atkins. All of them said they had warned Anderson about continued treatment for her son.

4-year-old overdoses

Beloit police said that a 4-year-old boy who they believe came in contact with cocaine over the weekend is recovering from an overdose and will be released from a Milwaukee hospital soon. Police said that when the child is released, he will be in the custody of Rock County Child Protective Services as the investigation continues, along with his sibling -- despite a hearing on Tuesday in which the family was trying to regain custody.

Capt. William Tyler, of the Beloit Police Department, said police were notified by a local hospital Saturday, when the child was brought in unconscious and preliminary tests showed cocaine in his blood. An aunt of the child contacted WISC-TV and said it was a pain killer, not cocaine, but police said, either way, something happened that shouldn't have. "Whether that's child abuse or child neglect or something else, we're not quite sure yet," Tyler said. "But we know that clearly there was a breakdown somewhere in which this child got a hold of something he shouldn't have, and all indications were it was the cocaine that caused this condition."

Mom charged in childs death

An adoptive mother has been charged with murdering her 9-year-old quadriplegic daughter, prosecutors in Michigan said Friday. Lorrie Thomas was charged with second-degree murder and child abuse in the death of Shylea Myza Thomas, said John Potbury, an assistant prosecutor with the Genesee County Prosecutor's Office in Flint, Michigan. Thomas is also charged with tampering with evidence. Thomas, who is the girl's biological aunt, made no immediate public statement.

Police found the girl's body this week, stuffed inside a garbage bag in a public storage facility in Vienna Township, near Flint, said Genesee County prosecutor David Leyton. The bag was covered in mothballs "in an apparent attempt to mask odors from the dead body," Leyton's office said in a news release.

Shylea had not been seen in six weeks, but relatives did not report her missing until Tuesday, Leyton's office said. Because of her physical disabilities, Shylea had to use a feeding tube. She suffered from quadriplegia because of a "suffocation issue" in her crib at 3 weeks of age, Leyton said. Leyton said Shylea and other relatives had lived in "absolutely filthy" conditions. Relatives told CNN affiliate WJRT that they remember Shylea as a happy child who loved music and had an infectious smile.

5 year old returns home with a bag of poo

5-year-old student at Apple Valley Elementary in Yakima headed home on the bus with more than books in his backpack. Inside was a smelly package his father never imagined he'd be toting around. Jason says his son's kindergarten teacher had bagged up a piece of human feces and stuck it in his son's backpack. His wife found the stinky mess. "She found a clear plastic bag with a piece of fecal matter wrapped up in a brown paper towel with the note on it," he said. The note read, "This little turd was on the floor in my room."

Jason says his son's teacher, Mrs. Graham, called last Friday and said her classroom was "stinky." She asked if the boy could have had an accident. Jason acknowledged the possibility, as his son had had a couple of accidents in the classroom in the past. He told Mrs. Graham there were extra clothes in his backpack.

After his wife found the bagged mess, Jason e-mailed school officials. Days later, he received a response apologizing for the delay in dealing with the issue. On Tuesday, he was still waiting for a chance to speak to school officials about the incident. The school's superintendent said the boy's teacher and the school principal are being questioned. School officials said they'll meet with Jason and his wife next week. In the meantime, Jason wants his son placed in a different teacher's classroom for the remainder of the school year.

Child takes own life after being bullied

Jaheem Herrera, 11, hanged himself after coming home from school on April 16. Masika Bermudez said her son was being consistently bullied at school. She said she had complained to the school, and she said it was her 10-year-old daughter who alerted her to the stress Jaheem was under.

Bermudez said bullies at school had called Jaheem “gay” and had taunted him about his accent. She said when he came home Thursday and she asked him about it, he denied it. She sent him to his room to calm down. That was the last time she saw him alive.

Channel 2 Action News reporter Pam Martin talked with some students at Dunaire Elementary who said they knew Jaheem. They confirmed the bullying. “That’s my baby’s life there because of this bullying situation they didn’t take care of,” said Bermudez.

Channel 2 Action News called the school for comment, but that call was not returned. DeKalb County Schools said they could not speak about any particular case.

Why talk about things if you don't know anything about it

I do not understand why people talk about things that they do not know anything about. A friend of my family was killed in a car accident a few days ago, and there are so many stories going around about what happened. If you do not know what happen, then do not say anything at all. Another thing, if you do not have anything nice to say about it, then please do not say anything at all. Friends and family members read what you say. How would you feel if someone was saying that about one of your friends or family memebers. SO PLEASE WATCH WHAT YOU SAY.

Teen Text-N-Drive Ban

A new Mississippi Law (starting July 1) will ban anyone with an intermediate license or learner’s permit from sending text messages while driving. Anyone caught texting while driving could face a misdemeanor charge and a fine of up to $500. If there's an accident, the fine would be up to $1,000.

The law — signed this past week by Gov. Haley Barbour — also will add six months to the minimum age for teenagers to get their driver’s licenses. The intermediate license, allowing some unsupervised driving, will become available at 16. An unrestricted license can be obtained six months later.

Sunday School Teacher Arrested In Girls Murder

Relatives of slain California 8-year-old Sandra Cantu expressed "shock" Saturday at news that a neighbor -- a Sunday school teacher whose daughter was a playmate of Sandra's -- was arrested in the girl's death. The girl's body was found Monday, stuffed into a suitcase submerged in a pond at a dairy farm.

Melissa Huckaby, 28, was booked into the San Joaquin County Jail early Saturday and faces charges of kidnapping and murder in the death of Sandra in Tracy, California. Sandra was last seen March 27 in the Tracy mobile home park where she lived with her family -- the same mobile home park where Huckaby lives.

"There's been a lot of speculation on the news about what happened to my suitcase," she told the newspaper. "It's not my granddad's. It's mine, and someone took it." Police noted "inconsistencies" between comments Huckaby made to the newspaper and a previous statement she gave authorities, Sheneman said. It was one reason police asked her Friday to come to the station to be interviewed again. She drove there about 6 p.m. Friday, he said.

How Sandra died has not been made public. An autopsy was conducted earlier in the week, but CNN affiliate KRON-TV said results are not expected for weeks. Thiessen said Saturday any autopsy information as well as search warrants filed in the case remain under seal.

A high school senior is dead, and her 17-year-old friend is accused of first-degree murder. The death of 18-year-old Kaitlyn Finnegan on Saturday night is leaving investigators with more questions than answers. Officers learned of the shooting shortly after 7 p.m. when Finnegan showed up at St. Francis Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest, Sgt. Mark Watson said. She later died about 7:45 p.m.

Police interviewed Theo Fleming, one of Finnegan's friends who took her to the hospital, according to his arrest report. He said Finnegan had been walking a dog in the neighborhood when she was shot in a drive-by. When that didn't check out, Fleming admitted to shooting Finnegan on accident inside a home at 5837 S. 94th East Place, the arrest report states.

Witnesses said Fleming had a black semi-automatic pistol in the front of his shorts and that he and Finnegan were in the living room when a shot was fired. As the group loaded the victim into Fleming's vehicle to take her to the hospital, witnesses said Fleming told them he shot her.
Police recovered one spent .22-caliber shell casing inside the home. A black .22-caliber pistol was also recovered from inside Finnegan's vehicle, which was driven to the hospital by a witness.
Fleming, a sophomore at Jenks High School, was booked into the Tulsa jail about 12:45 a.m. Sunday.

Shooting massacre in a Binghamton, New York

A receptionist with a gunshot wound in her stomach played dead under her desk and called 911 on Friday after a shooting massacre in a Binghamton, New York, immigration center. It is unclear how much time passed from the moment the woman and her colleague were shot until she placed the 911 call, police said. But by the time law enforcement arrived at the American Civic Association, about two minutes after the 10:31 a.m. call to 911, the shootings had ceased and 14 people were dead in the center, including the suspected gunman, law enforcement officials said.

He went by the name "Vaughn," which is what co-workers called him, she said. "He was quiet -- not a violent person," said Guy, who now lives in Wellington, Colorado. "I can't believe he would do something like this.Police are still investigating motives but said the use of a car to block the back door of the building suggested premeditation. The shooter, who was carrying a satchel of ammunition, was found dead of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot to the head, Zikuski said.

In all, law enforcement removed 14 bodies from the building and 37 survivors, Zikuski said.

Complaints of Internet-based crimes

Complaints of Internet-related crimes soared 33 percent last year, countering two years of consecutive declines, according to a report released Monday by the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3). The IC3 Web site received 275,284 complaints last year, up from 206,884 the previous year. The organization referred 72,940 of those 2008 complaints to federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. Referred complaints, which ranged from online auction fraud to identity theft to non-delivery of goods purchased online, cost consumers about $264.6 million last year, with the median dollar loss reaching $931 per complaint, according to the report. In 2007, the losses were less: $239.1 million.

Discovery Lands

The space shuttle Discovery landed safely at Kennedy Space Center on Saturday, completing a 13-day mission that included expanding the number of astronauts who can live aboard the International Space Station. "It was a beautiful landing," said NASA launch manager Leroy Kaine. "About the only thing that beats a beautiful orbiter landing like this is the next launch."

Discovery and its seven-member crew lifted off from the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Florida, last Sunday, to continue work on expanding the international space station's crew capacity from three to six. The official mission time was 12 days, 19 hours, 31 minutes and one second, according to NASA. The trip covered 5.3 million miles.

Vermont governor says he'd veto same-sex marriage bill

Vermont Gov. James Douglas announced Wednesday that he plans to veto a bill that would grant same-sex couples equal rights in marriage, if the bill reaches his desk. The same-sex marriage bill passed 26-4 in the state Senate on Monday; the House was in hearings on the matter this week.

Sandy Cote-Whitacre, 63, and her spouse, Bobbi Cote-Whitacre, 62, said they have waited 42 years -- the time they have been partners -- for the vote. "We have been together for so long and this means so much to us," said Bobbi Cote-Whitacre, who expressed disappointment at the governor's announced intention to veto the same-sex marriage bill. The couple was joined in a civil union in Vermont in 2000, shortly after the state passed the nation's first civil-union law. Bobbi Cote-Whitacre's mother, then 89 years old, walked the couple down the aisle.

The House, which is expected to vote this week, would need to approve the bill by a two-thirds majority to override the governor's threatened veto. Meanwhile, the Cote-Whitacres and Vermont Freedom to Marry have launched a television advertising campaign to promote the bill. Whatever the outcome, Sandy Cote-Whitacre said she and her spouse are willing to be patient.
"We are going to keep at it even if we have to go down the aisle with walkers," she said.

Increasing the price of tobacco

President Obama last week signed into law CHIP legislation that will be funded by an increase in the federal cigarette tax. According to the Journal, the legislation comes as at least 16 states are considering raising cigarette taxes by as much as four times the current amounts to offset "gaping budget holes" or fund state programs. The federal cigarette tax will increase from 39 cents to $1.01 per pack in April. The average state cigarette tax currently is $1.19 per pack. The national average cost for a pack of cigarettes, excluding federal and state taxes, is $4.32, according to the Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids.

Don't Spring Break In Mexico

The U.S. State Department and universities around the country are warning students headed for Mexico for spring break of a surge in drug-related violence south of the border. An advertisement in the Daily Illini notified students of the state department's warning. It urges students to avoid areas of prostitution and drug-dealing and take other commonsense precautions. More than 1,000 people are reported to have been killed in Mexico so far this year as gangs battle over lucrative drug routes into the US.

SPRING BREAKERS BE CAREFUL!!! YOUR LIFE MAY DEPEND ON IT!!!

Man kills 11 in Alabama then himself

Authorities in a southern Alabama community are trying to determine what caused a man to open fire on family members and apparent strangers on Tuesday, killing 10 people, before turning the gun on himself. By the time Michael McLendon ended his rampage, he had fatally shot his mother and set fire to her house, and killed his grandparents, his aunt and uncle, the wife and child of a sheriff's deputy, and three other people, according to King and the coroners of the two counties where the shootings occurred. By early Wednesday, authorities were still trying to piece together the chronology of events and the motive for McLendon's actions.

Another mass killing occurred in southern Alabama in 2002, when Westley Devon Harris gunned down six members of his 16-year-old girlfriend's family at their farm in Luverne. Harris was convicted and sentenced to death in 2005.

High school football coach charged in player's death

On August 20, 2008 during a summer practice Max Gilpin, 15, collapsed during practice and died three days later. A popular Kentucky high school football coach was arraigned on a reckless homicide charge in the heat-exhaustion-related death of Max.

"He was breathing," Webb said during the deposition, WLKY reported. "You know, he had a pulse. And we -- I automatically thought we might have had an exhaustion situation. He was sweating profusely."

Gilpin's body temperature reached 107 degrees and witnesses said Stinson had denied the student water on the hot August day, WLKY reported. Gilpin was rushed to an area hospital where he later died.

This is not the first time a player has died at football practice, if you search on the internet you will find many more cases.

Craigslist Being Sued

This past summer the Chicago Police Department arrested 76 prostitutes found through Craigslist. There is such a demand for prostitutes on Craigslist that they decided to require them to pay a posting fee with a verified credit card. The Cook County Sheriff has had enough. The Cook County Sheriff is suing Craiglist because he believes that it is “the single largest source of prostitution in the nation.” So far Craigslist doesn’t have any responses.

No plan to seek death penalty !!

Prosecutors for Casey Anthony have no plans to seek the death penalty. The state's attorney says they are preparing for trial as charged. Casey Anthony is facing the possibility of life on murder one charges. I feel they should seek the death penalty, because she killed her daughter. Whether it was on purpose or an accident does not matter, what matters is that she killed an innocent child. I think the prosecutors need to rethink their decision.

I am so glad to finally be back home. After PBL Competition and Dance Competition, I am exhausted. We did good at PBL Competition, and got first place at Dance Competition. The PBL Competition was a little unorganized but all in all it was a great experience. I am glad that I had the opportunity to have this experience. I would recommend it to anyone.

9 year old pleads guilty to murder

A 9-year-old Arizona boy charged with fatally shooting his father and another man pleaded guilty Thursday to one count of negligent homicide under terms of a plea agreement that does not specify jail time but places him on "intensive probation." The boy was accused of killing his father, Vincent Romero, 29, and Tim Romans, 39, who rented a room in Romero's home in St. Johns, Arizona. Both men were found dead at the home November 5, and police said the next day that the boy confessed to shooting them with a .22-caliber weapon. The boy must remain on probation until he turns 18 and must undergo diagnostic and mental health evaluations at the ages of 9, 12, 15 and 17½. The boy signed the agreement in shaky cursive handwriting.

How can anyone harm a child?

It seems like all we hear on the news now a days, is about parents killing their young children. How could someone take the life of their own child? If they didn't want their child or couldn't take care of it, why not give the child to someone who would love them like one of their own. There are so many families in the world that would love to have a child of their own but they can't, and here are people killing their child because they don't want them. I think we need to stand up for the rights of children, who can't fend for themselves.

Justice for Caylee

Caylee Marie Anthony, 2, will finally be put to rest tomorrow after she was murdered by her mother, Casey. Casey allegedly wrapped duck tape around her daughters mouth to keep her quiet, then murdered her. After Caylee was dead, Casey put a heart shapped sticker on the duck tape by Caylee's mouth, Casey then wrapped little Caylee in her favorite Winnie the Pooh blanket, placed her in a laundry hamper, and finally put her in a garbage bag. Casey placed little Caylee in the trunk of her car for two days or longer before finally dumping her body only 15 houses away in a heavily wooded area. Casey told athorities that Zenida, the nanny, took Caylee. Authorites found the nanny, but the nanny had never once baby sat for the family. Caylee's body was found six months after she was reported missing. Casey is facing first degree mureder charges in the death of her 2 year old daughter. Casey continues to claim that she did not know where her daughter was, because the nanny had her. I believe that this is a lie and that she murdered her daughter.

Gravel truck slinging rocks

About a month ago, I got a new windshield put in my car. On my way home from school yesterday, I passed a gravel truck who was slinging rocks everywhere. As soon as i got next to him five rocks hit my windshield, but the last one busted it. I went to go get it fixed, but they said they could not fix it because it was a perfect circle and if they tried that part of the glass could come out. The only bad part is that if it starts to run, I will have to put a new windshield in my car again just to get a new inspection sticker. Is there any thing we can do about the gravel truck slinging rocks everywhere? If you have any suggestions let me know.

6 more weeks of winter

As of Wednesday, we have six more weeks of winter. Punxsutawney Phil (The world’s most famous furry forecaster) saw his shadow after being pulled from his burrow in an oak stump at 7:31 a.m. by a top-hatted handler. I can't wait for winter to be over, because I really don't like the cold weather. It seems that it takes so much more to stay warm, than it does to cool off. WINTER HURRY AND END!!!

Rules

The dance competition went well, but it could have went better. Some of the winners did not deserve to win, because there were a lot of people better than them. I think the people over the competition needs to give you the rules and regulations paper before the day of the competition, and not on the day. A couple of our girls did not place because on the rules and regulations paper it said knee drops were illegal. We did not know that until that morning, and by then it was to late to try and change the dances. I mean how are we suppose to know that if we don't get the paper before the competition. I am just frustrated about how the competition was ran, but other than that issue it went very well.

Blah Blah Blah

Hello agian. I am having an ok day. I am really tired because I have been teaching dance all week since Tonya is out. She had her baby Friday, so she is taking a little time off. She won't be back for the next 2 weeks, so me and Joellyn are running the studio for her. I didn't realize how hard it was to run the dance studio, along with doing my own classes. It's all good though, because I know it is worth it.

About Me

Hello Everyone. My name is Amanda Farmer, and I am doing this blog as part of a school assignment. I am so excited because a friend of mine had her baby on Friday, and after school I am gonna go see her and the baby. She had a baby boy and he is soooo cute. I can't wait to get to hold him because I haven't got to yet.
