A newborn baby boy abandoned in a storm drain has died, according to DeKalb County authorities. DeKalb County police said they found the baby abandoned in a storm drain at about 4:30 a.m. Thursday.
The discovery followed a tip from 18-year-old Sinead Harrison. Harrison told police she gave birth to the baby in a gas station restroom and then she put the baby in a dumpster near Wesley Chapel Road. Police searched the dumpster but did not find the baby.
Harrison also gave police her boyfriend's address. Police questioned the 19-year-old man, identified as Landis Moore, and he allegedly confessed that his girlfriend had given birth to their son in the house and then he had put the baby in the storm drain. Officials found the baby a short time later in a storm drain and took it to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston. Officials said the baby boy had been in the drain for "several hours" but he was initially expected to survive.
He died Thursday evening."They located the baby inside that storm drain … I don't know how the condition was but I know that she did give birth early Thursday morning and it was placed in that storm drain and had been there for a few hours. But it was alive and it was transported," said Officer Jason Gagnon with the DeKalb County Police Department.
Moore claims the baby was stillborn.

The FBI is investigating as a possible hate crime an incident in which a woman was beaten to the ground in front of her child at the entrance to a Cracker Barrel restaurant in Morrow, Georgia, south of Atlanta.
Troy Dale West Jr., of Poulan, Georgia, is facing charges including misdemeanor battery and disorderly conduct after allegedly beating Army reservist Tashawnea Hill, 35, after the two had words at the entrance of the Morrow, Georgia, restaurant the evening of September 9.
Hill, an African-American, told police that West, 47, yelled racial epithets at her as the attack took place.
"He did punch me with a closed fist repeated times. My head is still hurting today. I have knots on my head," Hill told CNN Wednesday night, adding she also was kicked.
Hill told police the incident started when she and her daughter were entering the restaurant at the same time West and his wife were exiting.
"The man slung open the door pretty hard and fast and I had to push my daughter out of the way," Hill told CNN affiliate WSB-TV. "I turned to the man and I just said, 'Excuse me sir, you need to watch yourself; you almost hit my daughter in the face.' And from there it just went downhill."

Sunday School Teacher Faces Death Penalty
Prosecutors will seek the death penalty against a former California Sunday school teacher accused of killing an 8-year-old girl earlier this year. Melissa Huckaby, 28, was indicted last month in the death of Sandra Cantu, a playmate of Huckaby's daughter. Huckaby lived in the same mobile home park as Cantu and her family in Tracy, California.
Sandra's body was found April 6, stuffed into a suitcase and submerged in a pond at a dairy farm. She was last seen alive March 27 in the mobile home park. Huckaby is charged with kidnapping and murdering Sandra, according to the indictment, along with lewd and lascivious acts on a child under 14 and rape by instrument. She pleaded not guilty in June, but entered another not guilty plea on Thursday at a hearing.
Prosecutors said at the hearing Thursday they plan to seek the death penalty.Thursday, September 10, 2009
A baby just 1 month old or younger was found dead near the Sacramento River on Wednesday, Sutter County sheriff's detectives said. Authorities were called shortly before 6:30 p.m. to the 6900 block of Garden Highway after someone walking in the area discovered the body. The gender of the baby was not released. The discovery was made in a rural area. There are no homes nearby.
This is very cruel. If someone does not want there baby or can not take care of there baby, give it to someone who can. There are plenty of people in the world, who would love to take care of that baby.
